Roger du Plessis (Duc de Liancourt, Count de Liancourt)

(I believe that Roger du Plessis was the “Count of Liancourt” that John Evelyn visited on Tuesday 1 March 1644 – GS)

The Duc de Liancourt was the uncle of La Rochefoucauld (famous for writing “Maxims’, he eventually inherited the Hôtel de Liancourt from his uncle).   He married Jeanne Schomberg in 1620 making him the brother of Marshal Schomberg.  The couple built the Hôtel de Liancourt designed by the architect Lemercier.
