‘s-Hertogenbosch (Dutch pronunciation: literally “The Duke’s Forest”, in French and historically in English: Bois-le-Duc) is a city and municipality in the southern Netherlands.
It was founded as a fortified city and used the surrounding marshes as additional protection against siege.
