Summary
Cornelius Polemburg ( 1586 -1660). From “History of Painting, ancient and modern. Interspersed with anecdotes” ,1935:
“Cornelius Polemburg was invited by Charles I to London; painted the Portrait of the King, and several curious pictures. He was the father of miniature painting. His genuine works are exceedingly rare. His scholar, John de Lis, of Breda, imitated Polemburg so exactly, that his works are often taken for those of his master. Polemburg often painted the figures in the works of eminent artists; particularly for Steenwyck and Kierings.”
