Summary

Isabella Eugenia

Isabella Clara Eugenia (August 1566 – December 1633) was sovereign of the Spanish Netherlands in the Low Countries and the north of modern France, together with her husband Albert. In some sources, she is referred to as Clara Isabella Eugenia. By birth, she was an infanta of Spain and Portugal.

Austin Dobson had this to say in a footnote:

“The Infanta Clara Isabella Eugenia (daughter of Philip II.), to whom the “ Spanish Netherlands” were ceded in 1598 on her marriage with Albert, Archduke of Austria, the Spanish Governor. He died in 1621, and she reigned alone until 1633.”
